ECU compatibility across model years

My ECU is faulty, I know, it throws random codes, I already ruled out the sensors and a local shop confirmed it's likely the ECU, the diagnosis was quite easy but now the challenge is finding a direct replacement for this 2017, it really has been more of a hassle than expected, in my search, I've come across a few ECUs from other SV650 years (mainly 2018–2020 models) being sold used, but I'm not sure if they're gonna fit in nicely without much mods or even be compatible or if Suzuki made any changes to the wiring, programming, or immobilizer systems across those years. I don't want to drop money on one only to find out it won't work with my setup.
I need to know what I need to know about swapping across model years, like are there certain part numbers I should be watching for....or avoiding?
Any insight would really help a lot before I commit to a replacement and its going to be soon because her back on track

You'll want to match part numbers exactly or cross-check them with a Suzuki dealer. 2017–2020 ECUs may look the same, but wiring or immobilizer tweaks can mess things up
